CANNIBAL
PHOTOGRAPHY/TYPOGRAPHY/IDENTITY
Cannibal is Kesha's debut EP as released in 2010. This album explores themes of feminism, being unapologetically you, and partying till you drop dead. Taking into consideration Kesha's background, I experimented with Renaissance imagery to serve as a metaphorical representation of Kesha's artistic growth and transformation. Just as the Renaissance marked a rebirth of knowledge and culture, Kesha's album signifies her evolution as an artist.
Research and Moodboard
How could I infuse her lyricism with the aesthetics of the Renaissance era and evoke a sense of dark beauty and sophistication? How could I utilize props and set design to accomplish this goal? To do so, I considered her original design, motifs, and the darker imagery of the Renaissance period.
Iteration
How could the typeface emphasize the subject? How could the typeface juxtapose the set design?
Typography and Color
How could the typeface reflect the themes of her debut album? How can it feel as though the type is unanimous with the visual? How can the color evolve from the original album? What hues reflect the darker period of the renaissance era?
